Tea table, rococo

Marieberg, Sweden, 1774.

Faience, wood.

84cm x 59cm x 76cm.

Tables meant for serving tea started to be made in Europe when tea and coffee gained popularity. Here, the painted floral ornamentation is made with muffle colours and exudes the lightness of the Rococo period. There are fold-out extensions on the sides, intended for candelabra.
