Bows (1903) by Hugo Simberg (1873–1917) depicts a small child in a walker reaching toward the tail of a devil, decorated with brightly coloured bows. The painting belongs to a series of devil-themed works that Simberg made from 1896 onwards. The artist usually depicted his devils as benevolent and playful. Here, the demon seems to want to cheer up the child with the pretty bows on its tail.
