Diana (1898) by Albert Edelfelt (1854–1905) portrays the goddess of the hunt from Roman mythology. The artist’s model was his housemaid Thyra Karlsson, who sat for many of his works on the same theme. Edelfelt’s work from the late 1800s displays his growing interest in religious and mythological subjects; these symbolist paintings include motifs from the Bible, classical myths and fairy tales.
