Albert Edelfelt painted Young Lady with Parasol (1886) in his long-term hometown of Paris. While Edelfelt tended to paint his human subjects indoors in his studio, here the young Parisian lady is portrayed amid budding nature. It is a study in light, the focus being on the rays of sunlight that fall through the foliage. Another theme is spring: the woman sits before a blossoming cherry tree, and the rest of the surrounding nature is turning green after the winter.
