The Meissen porcelain manufactory started making porcelain in 1713. Besides crockery, it produced porcelain figurines used as dinner table ornaments. The Rococo period’s love for natural romanticism is evident in this figurine depicting a man in the lap of nature, on a tree stump, with his dog.
