Milk jug, rococo

Meissen, Germany, c. 1763–1774.

Porcelain, gilt.

13,5 cm x 12,5 x 8,5 cm.

The milk served with coffee or tea used to be heated, and therefore most milk jugs had lids. The collection’s jug has a pear-like shape, with a ductile flower bud as the knob. The jug’s sides are ornamented with exotic birds, butterflies and insects.
