Teapot

Meissen, Germany, c. 1730–1733.

Porcelain, gilt.

23,0 cm x 16,0 cm x 10,5 cm.

Coffee, tea and cocoa became new trends in eighteenth-century Europe. Coffee pots were usually pear-shaped, while teapots, influenced by Chinese styles, became round. The pot in the collection has a soft, octagonal shape. It is decorated with a harbour scene, reflecting the expanding world view of the day.
