Ferdinand von Wright: Rooster and Hens

1871

Oil on canvas.

63,0 cm x 84,0 cm.

Ferdinand von Wright (1822–1906) is known for his large paintings of birds, made with scientific accuracy. While his subjects were often birds of prey, garden birds also repeatedly feature in von Wright’s work. In Rooster and Hens (1871), the birds are very precisely rendered against a less detailed background.
