Parisian Beauty (1874) was the first painting that Albert Edelfelt (1854–1905) completed in Paris after moving there in the spring of 1874. The model was a young lady who also sat for many other artists. Edelfelt painted her against a red background, using dark, rich colours. The only pale shades are on the model’s face, further emphasising her beautiful features and mysterious expression.
