Careful attention was paid to the presentation of sugar, an expensive commodity, in the eighteenth century. In the Gustavian period, sugar bowls were given a classical, urn-like shape. The ones in the collection are decorated with fluted ornamentation. Some sugar bowls from that period are even equipped with locks, because sugar was a luxury product.
